January-itis

I have been feeling very dull in the blog department lately, especially on the heels of all my Christmastime projects and fun goings-on to write about. Around here we've been busy, but with projects and accomplishments difficult to document in an entertaining manner. A nice, tidy pantry? Income taxes? Closet overhaul? We've had nearly zero snow, so I don't even have pretty seasonal pictures to share. Just a lot of brown and wet and cloudy-cold for Maryland. (Unlike my parents, by the way, who are buried under an accumulated 3-4 FEET of snow in Connecticut. Still not sure whether to be jealous or grateful). And the kiddos, while darling, are suffering from some of the same January-itis that I'm feeling these days. Daddy is at work. A Lot. Mommy gets boring after awhile. We don't really go anywhere, we just follow the same routine and play the same things in the same house every same, same day. Get the idea? So my blog policy is, if I can't say nothin' nice, I won't say nothin' at all.

But as soon as I shake my wintry frump I will definitely be sharing about my reorganized sewing room and Don's new-ish office space, and about my new favorite friend in the kitchen, and some old and new quilting, knitting, and crochet projects that are queued up for the next few months. So stay tuned.

There, I feel better already.

Today's Numbers, II

6 months, almost, since my original numbers post, and a fitting day to do it again:

1/4 loaf remaining of the banana bread I baked just a mere

0 meltdowns from Amy today - a good day!

130 minutes William spent napping, which is also known as

2 too-short naps.

7 o'clock this evening, and he was out.

3 weeks, 2 days until my parents come to visit (yay!).

2,500 pictures taken by me between age

10 and age 21, which have been reduced to about

700, and fit nicely into

1 box, generating

8 empty albums.

6 more albums up for review.

4 evenings, at least, and

7 lines of this post that have been devoted to this picture-sorting project so far...

2 bathrooms cleaned this morning, with Amy's help.

5 HUGE bags of clothes outgoing from the master closet along with

1 box of books and

a whole bunch of other stuff that we are releasing in an attempt to further simplify...

20" - depth of unsorted miscellanea on the sewing room floor, accounting for the

0 sewing projects worked on since Christmas.

12 days left in January to complete all sorting and decluttering projects so that on

2/01/11 I can jump back into something creative.

9 (estimated) other witty tidbits that will pop into my head as soon as I hit "publish".

4.5 hours until William will be waking up for his midnight snack, so I had better type

1 more line and then move on to something else for the evening before I'm needed again!

Dresser

So, this year my brother and sister-in-law showed me up big time in the hand-crafted gift department. My offerings were lame compared to the amazing crocheted and knitted gifts Sharon made for all of us, as well as some awesome feats of woodworking, like this dresser! made for Amy by her totally-smitten and completely talented Uncle Bud.

This puppy is still sitting at Mom and Dad's house, awaiting hardware (I've picked this) and a ride down to us in my folks' big car.

Wow, is about all I can say on this one. And that I better get started right now if I'm going to make anything for next Christmas that holds a candle to this. I am totally dazzled by my little brother's generosity.

PS - Adam, you better update your blog now! I love you!

Untitled

Oh dear, I'm so past-due in blog land that I can't even come up with a proper title for this post. I'm just here to say that after a marvelous Christmas and some too-short time with family we're back in the game here and loving January. Lots of cleaning, purging (of stuff), simplifying, freeing - all those good NewYear's-y things. Haven't even gotten a chance to look at pictures I took from Christmas yet... or go through the mail (oops). But I have accomplished a great deal in the last 48 hours and am hoping to feel fairly caught up by the end of the weekend. Then, for those few of you who care what I write here (thank you!), I will be back in my usual form.

Till then!
