Thankful for...

... wonderfully chubby baby cheeks, and the little boy they belong to.

... a little girl who wants to be just like her mommy.

... a husband who *most likely* won't be deployed to the Gulf of Mexico over the holidays.

... getting to chat with my mom every day, even if it's not in person.

... letters from my dad to my daughter and back again.

... family to miss.

... the 50 pound box of free food we received from very generous people.

... our teeny tiny house.

... autumn leaves and blue skies.

... mocha almond fudge coconut milk ice cream.

... friends who will celebrate Thanksgiving with us when we can't travel home.

... inspiration and ideas that keep me up late at night.

... fellow bloggers who share bits of their lives to inspire others.

... joy, peace, and love in every single day.

Happy Thanksgiving, one and all.

Outtakes

It was a gorgeous fall day here in Southern Maryland and I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to try to catch some portraits-worthy shots of the kids. Getting Amy to a) hold still b) smile and c) look at the camera all at the same time was more than challenging. She was much more interested in twirling, running, and making goofy faces. In the end some outright bribery with a snickers bar was the only way to get her to sit nicely with us for a family shot. I've saved the best pictures for Christmas distribution, but here are some (of many!) that didn't make the cut. Enjoy!

The belly is cute, the turned-down waistband with pockets showing is not.

Naturally as soon as it was William's turn Amy couldn't get in front of the camera fast enough.

Don grabbed this nice one of me and my boy.

This is where the chocolate bribery became necessary.

Though in her defense I very clearly remember hating sitting for "formal" pictures when I was a young kid.

... but the promise of chocolate worked wonders!

There might yet be another photo session before snow flies... this family of mine is awfully cute, if I do say so.

Colors Completion, Part I

Well, I didn't quite finish this in time for Amy's birthday but I was awfully close. It's a bit ridiculous that I was cutting it so close anyway, considering I started this afghan back in February. But as we have certainly established here, that is how it goes with my projects; they all eventually get done, but often over large spans of time and many other things done in between.

Next up, finishing off the other Colors project. Perhaps in time for Christmas?

Happy Birthday, my amazing Amy!
